Apricot Blossoms
I don't particularly care for apricots, but their blossoms are beautiful! And it's a sure sign of spring when the trees are in full bloom...

In The Desert, Snow = Drama
In our semi-arid region, winter can be a little monotone. Luckily, we've had some snow to make things a little more interesting this season. I took this back in February in Palisade.
This was also taken in February from Long Park. The clouds that day were incredible! I was walking with my friend and I just had to stop and take a picture. Too bad there's a school in the way, but if that school and park hadn't been built, I would've been standing in a corn field. Or, more likely, wouldn't have ever had this exact vantage point. It's all about perspective, isn't it?

Fairplay Fun
I went to Fairplay, Colorado this weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday. South Park is a beautiful area and the drive between GJ and Fairplay is just gorgeous. Unfortunately, I didn't manage my time very well and it was dark by the time I got to the places I wanted to take pictures. On the way back it was snowing so hard I was just hoping to make it down Hoosier Pass alive. I did get a few other decent shots in Glenwood Canyon and near Rifle and DeBeque. I'll post a few of those later. Right now I wanted to share a couple pictures I took in Fairplay last June at the South Park Music Fest.

This is the hotel sign in downtown Fairplay at sunset. It was a great night!

This was taken from the deck of my friend's parents house just outside of Fairplay. It's a little hazy, but the peak off in the distance is Pikes Peak.

This was taken near the top of Hoosier Pass. No idea what mountain this is.

Thinking Warm Thoughts
It's been snowing off and on for the last two days. The Olympics have been on non-stop, but even with all the entertainment, I'm starting to feel a little cabin-feverish. I'm ready for spring and warmer temperatures. We had a colder than average winter and I'm ready to wear my flip flops without having to worry about frostbite. :-) So, in honor of these warm wishes, I thought I would post a few pics from a hike through Dominguez Canyon on July 2, 2009. I previously posted a couple of these on Facebook, but I've since cleaned up the contrast and made a few color adjustments in an attempt to share the true beauty of the canyon. Hope you enjoy!

Silly Horses
This isn't a great picture, but I thought it was kind of fun and I promised myself I would post something today. I've been sick and really unfocused, but I feel much better now and I'm excited for whatever tomorrow may hold! The light was really low, which is why the shot is a bit of blur. I was so focused on catching the horses in this pose, that I didn't adjust for the light. Next time. These are my neighbor's horses, Sox, on the left, and Sunny. Despite what appears to be demonic gleams in their eyes, they're actually very sweet. I was over at the neighbor's house letting their puppy out and I noticed the horses playing in the field. I thought it would be a good opportunity to take some animal action shots. I like photographing animals - they aren't self-conscious and don't mind if I take a 200 shots. Sox even turned out to be a bit of show-off! While the other horses got bored with me, he was all up in my business.

It's A Brand New Day
This is my very first post on this blog. I'm very excited about the adventure I'm embarking on!
A little about this picture and me: I took this photo this past October in Thornton, Colorado. I have an Olympus FE-280 that I love and I'm still learning all the cool things it can do! One day in the not too distant future (I hope) I'll upgrade. But for now, this is what I'm working with. Before then I'm hoping to improve my eye and learn some new techniques. I'm also really excited to explore Colorado. I've lived in this state nearly my entire life, but have taken for granted how beautiful it is. I also enjoy finding beauty in the ordinary. I'm most interested in capturing landscapes, animals and just nature in general. People are ok, too, sometimes. :) That's enough for now. Hope you enjoy my photoblog!
